Sorrelly part 3

I have a whole lot of cousins on the Dahl side.  Most of them are girls.  Many of us lived in Starr Valley while we were growing up.  The teenage girls in our church go to Girls' Camp every summer for about a week.  One year Marianne, Margaret, Shanon, Catherine and I were all going.  (I don't know where Leslie was--she should have been old enough because Marianne could drive?)

Anyway.

At church when we were making plans for the camp, we cousins decided that we were going to sleep under the stars.  We didn't want to sleep in a tent.  We were (unfortunately) kind of bratty and convinced of our perceived superiority.  We didn't need a tent like the mere mortals that weren't our cousins.

(I can't remember all of the conversation but I do think we were haughty and arrogant. This is one of the times when I wish I could go back and act nicer.)

We laid out a tarp and all our various sleeping bags and quilts (nights get cold in the high desert).  All was well and we chatted giggled under the sky like cousins are apt to do.

Here's all the girl cousins except three.  I'm happy to report we all turned out more or less nicer than some of our teenage antics would have predicted.
Somewhere in the middle of the night there was a thunderstorm.  (Summer thunderstorms can be quite impressive in the high desert.)  Lightening flashed across the sky and the trees surrounding us swayed threateningly.  As the rain started we gathered up what we could and raced for Sorrelly which Marianne had driven to Girls' Camp. (I think she had come later than the rest of us so had driven herself.)

The following is a testament to the impressive size of Sorrelly.  Catherine and I slept in the backseat.  Marianne and Margaret shared the front seat and Shanon slept on the floor in the front seat...I'm not sure how she fared with the pedals--to say nothing of the hump on the floor in the middle--but we all seemed to do fine.

I guess you could say Sorrelly was our benevolent protector, even to sort of undeserving self-important girls.

Amanda. She is my cousin even though I never knew her.
